I’ve been doing a short course on illustration, one night a week. It’s been a welcome escape and break up of a weekly routine. There was an activity where we had to illustrate the following beautiful poem. Below is my take on the piece. I used ink on watercolour paper.
Lost
Stand still. The trees ahead and bushes beside you
Are not lost. Wherever you are is called Here,
And you must treat it as a powerful stranger,
Must ask permission to know it and be known.
The forest breathes. Listen. It answers,
I have made this place around you.
If you leave it, you may come back again, saying Here.
No two trees are the same to Raven.
No two branches are the same to Wren.
If what a tree of a bush does is lost on you,
You are surely lost. Stand still. The forest know
Where you are. You must let it find you.

A beautiful illustration for a beautiful poem! I’ve been tempted to do a similar course.
Thank you! It really is a beautiful poem, so meditative.
Oh, do the course you’re interested in, if you can! So great to extend yourself.
aw I love that!! so cute!
Hehe thanks!
I love your style! Please post more like this, I’m a fan.
Ooh, thanks! I like this particular style too, it’s influenced by Van Gogh’s kind of dramatised brush stroke style. Does that even make sense? https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/85/Vincent_Van_Gogh_-_Corn_Harvest_in_Provence_-_Google_Art_Project.jpg
