Stills photography shoot

Late last year I was hired by Kojo creative as a stills photographer for a GSK film shoot.

The set itself was so wonderfully put together, with one of the scenes mimicking a doctors surgery from the early 90’s. When I wasn’t too busy photographing, I loved taking in all the details (old desk top organiser, manila folders, a little kangaroo ornament souvenir…..).

Just as impressive were the crew and talent who were so professional that we were able to complete the shoot in one day.

I reaaalllly enjoyed myself and would love to do something similar soon! Here are a couple of my favourite shots from the day.

Clouds

There was a beautiful downpour yesterday, completely welcome after a particularly hot day. As the sun was setting, I was in awe of some of the most beautiful clouds. They were all layered. Some soft and wispy, others shapely and billowing like a slow explosion. One cluster in particular looked like something Buddha himself would come rolling in on. These photos are for the most part untouched, though they didn’t do the sky the justice it deserved.

While photographing these beauties, my initial thought was “….it’s all because of the sun, the light, that is making all of this so wonderful to see”. But I instantly knew this wasn’t entirely true. That it’s the bits of shadow and darkness which give the clouds shape and dimension. Yes yes yes, light and dark…..can’t have one without the other….very philosophical of me. But it’s true, no?

New menu item: photography

Photography is one of my most loved outlets for my creativity. It’s pretty neat to be able to give others a peek in to how I see things and what catches my eye. It’s like “Here, see the way the light is hitting that leaf? I find it beautiful and maybe you will too”. Or, “Look at how utterly unique that person is”. *CLICK*

I already have a photography blog, but am thinking of taking it down because I’ve recently integrated my photos in to this here site. I figure it makes sense to have it all in the one place. You can have a look for yourself up there in the menu under photography (though I probably didn’t need to tell you that).

I mostly use my Olympus OM2 film camera, but sometimes shoot with a Sony Nex digital. There’s something about film I can’t resist.
